Gritty launches first child animated app

Gritty’s new app, using children’s animation on the subject of Climate Change is now available on the App Store. Funded by the Arts Council of Wales ‘You’re Getting Warmer!’ uses the ideas and animation of young people from the Aber Valley and Riverside, Cardiff to explore what they know about the subject of global warming and includes quiz elements to create an educational tool that can be used in schools.

Premiere screening of In Parenthesis Teach

‘In Parenthesis Teach’, the new film Gritty has made for Welsh National Opera, premiered in the Wales Millennium Centre based on the poem by artist David Jones about his experiences during WW1. The screening was attended by 180 children from five schools who made the film and had a live accompaniment by WNO violinist Stephen Crichlow. The music was composed by Helen Woods based on musical themes by the children.

‘Striking Stories’ wins Best Film award at Zoom Cymru

‘Striking Stories’ won Best Film 14 – 18 years at the Zoom Cymru awards ceremony on Friday night. The award was collected by two of the filmmakers from Senghenydd Youth Drop in Centre the project also involved young people from St Martins Comprehensive School in Caerphilly. The film, about the miner’s strike in the 1980s from the perspective of miner’s wives, was funded by the Arts Council of Wales.

Premiere of ‘Striking Stories’ at Blackwood Miner’s Institute

Gritty Realism will be premiering ‘Striking Stories’ a new film about the 1984-1985 miner’s strike tomorrow night at Blackwood Miner’s Institute. The film is based on the reminiscences of miner’s wives and was made by young people from Senghenydd Youth Drop in Centre and St Martin’s School, Caerphilly. The film was funded by the Arts Council of Wales and will be screened alongside ‘The Man Who Was’ based on a true story about a man from Aberbargoed that changed the course of the Second World War.
