Travellers’ Tales, The Real Lives of Young Gypsies and Travellers the film Gritty made with young Travellers in Wales was screened in this year’s Videotheque at the Sheffield Documentary Festival last week. The film is a combination of interviews and animations by young people to respond to the negative representation of the community in the media. Sheffield Documentary Festival invites up to 70 specially selected films to participate in the Videotheque from this year’s submissions. These films are invited with market, broadcast and festival acquisitions in mind.

New film made in Caerphilly celebrates Tommy Cooper
Gritty has made a new film with a group of children at Bedwas Junior School about comedian Tommy Cooper who was born in Caerphilly.The animated film, funded by the Arts Council of Wales, follows Tommy as his statue in the town centre comes to life and he performs a series of tricks around the town that appear to go wrong but reveal the town in a new light to the people living there.
Retrospective exhibition opens in Newport Art Gallery
‘Sands of Time’ a retrospective of Gerald Conn’s short films has opened in Newport Art Gallery. The exhibition runs until April 10th and is the first survey of Gerald’s films.
Gritty visits San Francisco on Trade Mission
Gritty Realism was one of the Welsh companies that recently visited San Francisco as part of a Welsh Govenment delegation. During the trip Gerald Conn visited Pixar animation studios and some local film distributors and made some useful new contacts.
Heart of Darkness Pilot screening at National Museum
The pilot for the Heart of Darkness animated feature can still be seen as part of the History of Welsh animation exhibition at the National Museum of Wales. The film is being shown in a 3D stereoscopic form as part of the exhibition tracing the story of animation in Wales and will be on view until March 17th.
